Windsurfing - Stanley - Hong Kong
You know what they say about having a blog right? Something like, “make sure you post often, like at least once a week, or once every two years is also fine”. I am sure I heard that somewhere. Here is that once every two years post.
So in case you’re wondering where to go this weekend, this is for you. In case you’re not, keep reading, because why not, you’ve seen all instagram twice already.

We don’t know the trendiest new Hong Kong brunch spot, but we do know our beaches and we have tested out every activity you can do on them. You’re welcome. Although some won’t have their place on this blog.
One of our favourites, when the weather is with us, has to be an afternoon of windsurfing.
Whether you’re a beginner or not quite, Hong Kong is pretty great to sail around. Cheung chau is a nice option but our go-to for windsurfing is Stanley main beach. (Take the 6x from central or… you know, just use citymapper).
You can rent decent kit for $200 an hour from the Hi Wind Lover surf shack down on the beach and the guys running it are pretty cool. They are right next to those dragon boats mega racks. We took a 6m sail and 125L board and wore our Tiles shorts (shameless plug) with a harness and no life-jacket. But you do you. They also have foils too, if you feel like being the cool kid around.
If you want to check the wind conditions, Windfinder is your friend, or Windguru. Wind about 3-4 Bft, south, south east, will give you great fun. More is better but you’ll have to know what you’re about, and won’t need our help anyway.
They also offer lessons (from $800 per hour) seems worthwhile if you’ve not got a clue, or equally if you want to improve that carve jibe for the ladies, or the boys, or your mum. If you’ve got any friends then bring them too and you can split the cost hey.
The inner bay does get pretty busy with boats and watersporters, so beware of the Dragon Boat teams that practice there. You don’t want to be that guy that drops the sail in front of a 5 lane dragon boat race. There are few things in life more stressful than urgently hauling up your sail with a boat full of angry rowers tearing toward you. That guy last time did just that there and that sucked. Not our friend obvs.
Once you get past the headland the ocean is yours. Catch some of the stronger wind blowing through and get some speed up, try out that harness and remember how hard it is to use that thing.
Practice your tricks, fall in plenty, feel the wind in your hair, swallow a litre of sea water. You won’t regret it, or maybe you will.
Or just go find a trendy brunch spot and get hammered, whatevs

2015 has been an exciting year for us at Sandbucket. A lot of learning, leading to big improvements. We never stop testing our boardshorts, so we can make sure we improve what is not yet perfect. For sure, it is quite exciting, pushing the limits of our products meaning pushing our own limits in the water, so we indeed like that! (and drinking next to the pool has been in the process too of course, you never know, need to make sure our shorts work for that too!)
Hearing feedback from you helped us a lot as well. We have been working on a smart size selection system on the website, to make sure you never choose the wrong size when ordering ever. Online shopping can leave you wondering if you are ever going to choose to right size, or if the product is going to look the same when it reaches you. It has been a big focus for us, and 2016 will bring a great shopping experience, fear no more!
The new collection is getting ready to hit the beach this summer. We can already say that our boardshorts and swimshorts have been well improved, with new cuts and new designs, keeping a minimalist approach. We do very much care about what you think, so we will always improve towards meeting your expectations.
Some new products will hit the store too, but we will unveil that in the coming weeks!
